New York Stock Exchange-listed Fortune 500 company Sherwin-Williams has revealed the scope of its work with Spanish contractor Tecnicas Reunidas on Saudi Aramco's Ras Tanura refinery, where it delivered single coating protection against corrosion and high heat for the oil and gas bulk valves of the project, located near the industrial port city of Jubail.

The Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 product was used by Sherwin-Williams at the refinery, with the company working alongside Tecnicas Reunidas on the clean fuels and aromatics project.

Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 is, according to the Cleveland-headquartered company, a single-component corrosion under insulation (CUI) product for high-heat applications that can help reduce damage from shop to field with faster shop throughput and provide lower volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Sherwin-Williams said Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 does not need an inorganic zinc primer even when cured at ambient temperatures, and has been approved under Saudi Aramco's SAES-H-101V/System APCS-11C engineering standard as a high temperature-resistant CUI coating for oil and gas projects in the Middle East.

The American company added that the product may be used directly onto steel, stainless, or other grades, as well as a coating under insulation, or for use on cryogenic equipment.

Commenting on the project, Sherwin-Williams' project development manager, Emre Karapinar, said: “We were aware of the challenges associated with bulk valve packages for these projects, and our research and development team came up with a versatile solution for our customer to provide the necessary level of protection with efficiencies in time and cost of using only one product.
