Algeria downstream sector is facing big delays which led to a big fiasco.

Sonatrach announced the opening of an international tender to import 60.000 tonnes of diesel to meet the increasing demand from the domestic market, local news paper Echorouk reported.

This is the second time this year when Sonatrach find itself obliged to import diesel, after the first one called in early 2011 for a tender to import 30,000 tonne of diesel, amid a soaring demand.

Demand on fuel has increased more than 10% since 2002, and is set to continue to increase due to the increase of population, and the absence of projects that could meet demand domestically.

Sonatrach announced that it will continue to import additional quantities of diesel during the current and next years in order to face the shortage.
