QAFCO 6 contract to be signed

Industries Qatar has announced that the engineering, procurement and construction contract for Qafco-6 Expansion project will be signed on November 5th at Qatar Fertilizer Company’s (Qafco) Doha office.

The contract has been awarded by Qafco to a consortium consisting of the Italian company Saipem and the Korean firm Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company.

The scope of work includes the supply of licenses, EPC and start-up of a complete 3850 tonnes per day granulated urea production plant - Qafco-6 - as well as all of the associated utilities and off-site units. The facility will be constructed at the Qafco Complex in Mesaieed Industrial City.

The project length is 35 months with Qafco expected to take delivery of the facility in the third quarter of 2012.

The statement also said that as well as Saipem and Hyundai, both international and local construction companies will be involved in the project as sub-contractors.

Qafco is a subsidiary of Industries Qatar.
