Rising to become the numero uno in this year’s annual rankings is UK based Petrofac, which won four important contracts in the Middle East after the 2017 Top 30 EPC Contractors list was released by Refining & Petrochemicals Middle East on 1 September 2017. On 19 March 2018, the company announced that it had signed a binding letter of intent, for a contract worth around $580mn with a GCC National Oil Company (NOC)for the EPC of a major project.
02. Samsung Engineering
Climbing six positions from its 2017 ranking, Samsung Engineering occupies the second place in the 2018 Top 30 EPC Contractors list. On 8 February 2018, the company announced that it had received a letter of award to build a crude flexibility project on behalf of ADNOC Refining. At a value of $3.1bn, it is the ninth award in total Samsung Engineering received from ADNOC. Samsung secured the contract in partnership with CB&I as JV partner.
03. Tecnicas Reunidas
Holding its ranking in the Top 30 EPC Contractors listing, Tecnicas Reunidas is in third position this year. On 1 December 2017, the firm announced that it has been awarded a $4.2bn contract from Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) for the Bapco Modernisation Programme. The contract was won jointly with its joint venture partners, TechnipFMC and Samsung Engi-neering. The pro-ject entails the expansion of the capacity of Sitra oil refinery.
On 16 November 2017, Saipem was awarded a new contract in onshore engineering and construction. The contract was awarded by Saudi Arabian Oil Company. Activities involve engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning for the Hawiyah gas plant expansion project, located in the south-east of the Arabian Peninsula, which is part of the development plans to meet the energy needs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
05. Daelim Industrial Co
Daelim Industrial Co signed a contract in March 2017 to upgrade Iran’s Esfahan refinery. The contract amount is $2bn, and the company will implement the project alone. The project involves adding facilities to produce high value-added products, including diesel, gasoline and LPG, to the refinery. Daelim will take charge of design, equipment purchase, construction and financial procurement arrangement. The construction period is 48 months.
