Sadara Chemical to lay cracker foundations soon

One third of EPC deals for huge cracker projects still to be awarded

Sadara Chemical Company will set the foundations of its cracker in the next coming weeks, according to Ali Abuali, CEO of Sadara.

"The project is on track and will set the foundation of the cracker in the next few weeks," he revealed.

"We have awarded two thirds of the EPC contracts of the project, and the remaining contracts will be awarded in the next few months," he said during the 2012 Saudi Downstream conference.

Sadara is a $20bn joint venture project between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, it includes 26 production units and it is the only company in the GCC that utilizes naphtha as feedstock.

First production units will come on stream in 2016, while the company will be fully operational by 2018.
